Giant Polish cancer hospital may open ahead of schedule

Nemzetközi hírek, 13 Feb 2026

Work on one of Europe’s largest cancer hospitals is ahead of schedule and may see the modern facility in the southwestern Polish city of Wrocław treat its first patients in 2027.

Plans for the New Oncology, Pulmonology and Hematology Hospital originally foresaw the new oncology headquarters for the Lower Silesian province opening in 2028.

The new facility, which will be the biggest in Poland and may ultimately cost as much as €360 million, is being hailed as a key health investment for a country in which almost 1.2 million people are living with cancer.

“By creating the new hospital, we are building the future of oncology,” province governor Paweł Gancarz said.

“It is an investment that will provide the residents of Lower Silesia with the highest quality conditions for treatment in the effective fight against cancer.”

Beating the clock

The development, which involves the consolidation of three existing hospitals into a single healthcare hub of around 100,000 square meters, is four months ahead of schedule and may open its doors as early as next year.

The new headquarters of the Lower Silesian Oncology, Pulmonology and Hematology Center will replace its current premises, which are more than a hundred years old and do not meet modern standards.

“As doctors, we’re extremely happy with the work’s progress,” the center’s director, Prof. Adam Maciejczyk, said in a statement.

“We are already getting ready to move in, so that we can do it efficiently and open the new hospital as quickly as possible.”

Once opened, the facility will offer 671 beds in comfortable single and double rooms, and a surgical block with 14 theaters enabling as many as 10,000 operations to be performed a year.
