Július 1: Semmelweis-nap, a Magyar Egészségügy Napja

Július elsején emlékezünk Dr. Semmelweis Ignácra, aki a fertőzés megelőzésének kiemelkedő úttörője volt az orvostudományban. Ez a nap, a Magyar Egészségügy Napja.

Felfedezése és megvalósítása, miszerint a kézmosás jelentősége elengedhetetlen a fertőzések terjedésének megakadályozásában, forradalmi változást hozott az egészségügyben, bár ezt az ő idejében az orvostudomány nem támogatta. Munkája segítette elő a szülészeti és sebészeti beavatkozások biztonságosabbá tételét, és megalapozta a modern fertőzésprevenció alapelveit.

Ezen a napon emlékezünk meg az egészségügyi szakemberekről is, megköszönve kitartásukat és elhivatottságukat. 1992 óta ez a nap a magyar egészségügy napja, 2011-óta pedig munkaszüneti nap is egyben.
